SEC Media Picks Tigers Fourth in West

HOOVER, Ala. - The LSU Tigers were picked to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference Western Division in a voting by 177 media members to conclude 2010 SEC Media Days on Friday at the Wynfrey Hotel.

In addition, cornerback Patrick Peterson and linebacker Kelvin Sheppard were selected preseason first-team All-SEC by the media. Both were recognized first-team All-SEC by the league's coaches on Tuesday.

Alabama was predicted to win the SEC Western Division while Arkansas was second, Auburn third, LSU fourth, Mississippi State fifth and Ole Miss sixth.

Florida earned the nod in the Eastern Division while Georgia was predicted to finish second, South Carolina third, Kentucky fourth, Tennessee fifth and Vanderbilt sixth. 

The 177 voters also selected the Crimson Tide to defeat the Gators in the SEC Football Championship Game on Dec. 4 in Atlanta. The Tigers received 653 votes and one first-place vote.

LSU opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against North Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. The contest will be televised nationally by ABC and kickoff at 7 p.m. CDT.
