HOOVER, Ala. - Four LSU players have earned the distinction of pre-season All-Southeastern Conference as the league office announced the 2010 SEC Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC First and Second Teams to kickoff 2010 SEC Media Days on Tuesday.

Cornerback Patrick Peterson and linebacker Kelvin Sheppard were selected to the first-team defense. Offensive tackle Joseph Barksdale was named to the second-team offense and defensive tackle Drake Nevis earned second-team defense honors.

The teams were announced a day prior to 2010 SEC Football Media Days, in which over 800 members of the media will gather with all 12 coaches and selected student-athletes over a three-day period. The Tigers, represented by head coach Les Miles, Peterson, Sheppard and quarterback Jordan Jefferson, take their turn in the final rotation on Friday.

Peterson, a native of Pompano Beach, Fla., was a second-team All-SEC selection as a junior and heads into his senior year as a unanimous pre-season All-America recipient by every major publication. He ranked fourth in the SEC a season ago in passes defended with 15, including two interceptions.

Sheppard, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., led the Tigers with 110 tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss in 2009. A pre-season All-America pick by the Sporting News, he ranked fourth in the SEC in tackles as a junior. Sheppard is LSU's most experienced defender with 17 career starts and appearances in over 40 games.

Barksdale, a native of Detroit, Mich., is LSU's veteran offensive lineman having started 26 consecutive games. In 2010, the senior makes the move to left tackle after starting at right tackle the two previous seasons. He played every offensive snap in 12 of the Tigers' 13 games in 2009.

Nevis was tops on the team in tackles for losses as a junior with 11 and he finished with 50 total tackles on the year. The senior from Marrero, La., steps into a full-time starting role in 2010 and is poised for breakout season. Nevis was second on the team in sacks with four last season.
