BATON ROUGE -- LSU women's tennis signee Olivia Howlett defeated the fifth-ranked junior college player and No. 1 seed Nadia Lee 7-6(1), 6-2 Thursday for the NJCAA Women's Tennis Singles National Championship.

No. 3 seed Howlett, who plays for Hillsborough Community College, breezed through the tournament all the way to the semifinals where she faced No. 2 seed Mariya Slupska.  The Lady Hawk dropped her first set 6-1 but rallied back to take the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the finals.

Fourth-ranked Howlett was also honored as the Region IV Intercollegiate Tennis Association Player of the Year in the NJCAA on May 3.

Howlett hails from Bridgewater, England, and will compete for the Lady Tigers in the fall.
