BATON ROUGE - Eight LSU football players have signed free agent contracts with the NFL, running the number of players from the 2009 team now on a pro football roster to 14.

The following players signed free agent contracts with the NFL over the past two days: cornerback Chris Hawkins with the Jacksonville Jaguars; linebacker Jacob Cutrera with the Jacksonville Jaguars; defensive end Rahim Alem with the Cincinnati Bengals; defensive back Danny McCray with the Dallas Cowboys; safety/linebacker Harry Coleman with the New Orleans Saints; running back Keiland Williams with the Washington Redskins; defensive tackle Charles Alexander with the Philadelphia Eagles; and tight end Richard Dickson with the Detroit Lions.

In addition, wide receiver Chris Mitchell has been granted an opportunity to tryout for a roster spot for the New Orleans Saints.

The only three scholarship seniors from the 2009 LSU squad who have yet to sign an NFL contract are offensive tackle Ciron Black, wide receiver R.J. Jackson and Mitchell. Black is expected to sign with a franchise any day.

Of LSU's 17 scholarship seniors in 2009, 14 have either been drafted or signed as a free agent with an NFL team.

The six Tigers selected in the 2010 NFL Draft include: safety Chad Jones in the third round to the New York Giants; wide receiver Brandon LaFell in the third round to the Carolina Panthers; linebacker Perry Riley in the fourth round to the Washington Redskins; defensive tackle Al Woods in the fourth round to the New Orleans Saints; return specialist Trindon Holliday in the sixth round to the Houston Texans; and running back Charles Scott in the sixth round to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since taking over the LSU program in 2005, head coach Les Miles has seen 31 Tigers selected in the NFL Draft. Last year, LSU had a school-record 48 players on NFL rosters.
