BATON ROUGE -- In honor of Dallas Cowboys Linebacker Bradie James' late mother, the LSU gymnastics team will compete against nationally-ranked Oregon State Friday, March 5, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center, N. Stadium Dr. in Baton Rouge, LA, during the third annual Etta James' Memorial Meet.

During James' sophomore year at LSU, he lost his mother, Etta James to breast cancer in 2002. After establishing his foundation in 2007, the gymnastics team at James' alma mata teamed up with his foundation to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.

"My life was forever been changed by my mom's personal experience with breast cancer," James said. "Her strength fuels my drive to give and to do for others. Foundation 56 is my contrinution to making a difference and that difference is saving lives."

The goal of the meet is to raise money for Bradie James' Foundation 56/Soul Survivors, which promotes early breast cancer detection and increasing services and resources of this insidious disease in Baton Rouge and neighboring communities in Louisiana. Since the inaugural meet in 2008, $80,000 has been raised during the meet by the LSU gymnastics and the Baton Rouge community for Foundation 56.

"The last two seasons have been very successful in terms of community support for the Etta James Memorial. Our fans have continued to come out and help Bradie and I in the fight against breast cancer, and we aspire to continue this in 2010," LSU head coach D-D Breaux said.

After hosting the second-largest crowd in LSU gymnastics history during the meet's inaugural year, record crowds of 7,717 supporters have attended the meet.

"I was so happy that the community helped us raise more than $80,000 the past two years, and we are excited to work with Bradie again this season, because we want to reach a new goal by raising $56,000 to support breast cancer awareness with Foundation 56. It is an honor to be part of this cause, Breaux said.

With this year's goal of hosting 8,000 supporters during the meet next month, a donation in the amount of $10,000 contribution will be made to the foundation if this goal is met.

This year's meet will be kicked off by a "Tailgate for the Fight Against Breast Cancer" event Thursday, March 4th in the Stadium Club inside Tiger Stadium sponsored by Foundation 56. The meet is also providing and enter to win drawing, where two supporters will have the opportunity to sit with in James during the meet. There will also be a live performance by the dance group Dragon Master Showcase, who performed on NBC's show, America's Got Talent.
