LSU Sports Interactive
CBS College Sports Network debuts a special one-hour edition of the original programming series “Heisman Tales” featuring legendary LSU running back Billy Cannon, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1959. HEISMAN TALES: BILLY CANNON debuts on Friday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. CT.
The show explores the life and football career of Cannon on the 50th anniversary of his Heisman win. Included in the special are his legendary punt return against Ole Miss in 1959; his impact on LSU’s football program; his legal troubles after football; his redemptive induction into the College Football Hall of Fame and acceptance by the football community. The famously reclusive Cannon speaks about his accomplishments and his struggles. Cannon’s LSU coach Paul Dietzel also is interviewed, as are journalists, teammates, family members and friends of the great LSU running back.
Cannon granted CBS College Sports Network special access to the dental practice he oversees at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, where he rebuilt a life that has had many ups and downs, including his phenomenal athletic feats on the football field, and his two-and-a-half year imprisonment for a counterfeiting conviction.
HEISMAN TALES: BILLY CANNON is the latest installment in CBS College Sports Network’s original series on Heisman winners. Past shows featured Roger Staubach, John Cappelletti, John David Crow, Earl Campbell and Pete Dawkins.
