BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Tigers will face Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Conference in a first-round game of the 25th anniversary Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off on Monday, Nov. 16 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The pairings were announced today by C. M. Newton, the chair of the NIT Selection Committee.

The Maravich Center will be the site for the South region of games with LSU the third seed in the 16-team event. The other game that will take place in Baton Rouge involves Western Kentucky, who was second in the 1986 NIT Season Tip-Off from the Sun Belt Conference, against Milwaukee (formerly Wisconsin-Milwaukee) of the Horizon League. Western Kentucky is the fifth seed in the tournament.

The tipoff times and any possible television has yet to be announced.

The two winners and the two losers will play the next night, Nov. 17, at the Maravich Center with the undefeated team at the end of the two nights going to New York City and Madison Square Garden for the NIT Season Tip-Off championship round on Nov. 25 and Nov. 27.

All teams are guaranteed four games in the Season Tip-Off and consolation rounds would be played Nov. 23 and 24 at the three highest remaining seeds that did not make it to New York City. Participating teams will not play any team twice in the consolation rounds and the third and fourth rounds will be assigned to the most geographically compatible site possible.

The East Regional will take place at Duke where the top-seeded Blue Devils (three time NIT Season Tip-Off champs 1985, 2000, 2005), will play Coastal Carolina while eight-seed UNC Charlotte meets Elon.

Connecticut, the number two seed, will host the North Regional in Storrs, facing Colgate in the first-round while sixth-seed Hofstra meets Yale in the other first-round matchup.

The fourth seed is Arizona State, hosting in Tempe, against Texas State of the Southland Conference. The other matchup in the West Regional is seventh-seed TCU against Cal State Northridge.

ESPN will provide coverage throughout the event, televising games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Games on ESPN and ESPN2 will be simulcast on ESPN360.com.

The NIT in August of 2005 went under the umbrella of the NCAA, which assumed control of both of the tournaments the organization runs. An independent at-large committee chooses the field for both events.

Information on tickets for the 2009-10 men’s basketball season can be found at LSUsports.net and by calling the LSU Athletics Ticket Office at 225-578-2184.

The rest of the 2009-10 LSU men's basketball schedule will be announced on LSUsports.net in the coming weeks.
