BATON ROUGE -- LSU put three offensive players Ciron Black, Richard Dickson, and Charles Scott on the SEC Coaches Preseason first-team all-conference football team, the league office announced on Thursday.

The league office released a first, second, and third-teams for offense, defense and special teams. The preseason all-SEC team was voted on by the 12 head coaches in the conference. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.

The Tigers placed a total of 10 players over the three units, which ranked second among all SEC teams. Florida led the league with 16 players, including eight first-teamers, on the three units. Alabama and Georgia followed LSU with nine selections.

Heading the list of first-teamers for the Tigers was the trio of offensive players in Scott, Black and Dickson. Black, who has started 40 straight games at left tackle during his career for the Tigers, was just one of three players who was a unanimous selection to the team. Black has twice earned second-team all-SEC honors and he goes into the 2009 season having not allowed a sack in two years.

Black was joined by Alabama receiver Julio Jones and Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry as the only  unanimous selections.

Scott is joined at running back by Arkansas’ Michael Smith. Scott, who ranked among the SEC leaders in rushing last year with 1,174 yards and 18 TDs, was a first-team all-SEC selection last year as a junior.

Dickson, a three-year starter at tight end, goes into his final season with Tigers with a shot at breaking every receiving record the position for LSU. For his career, Dickson has caught 69 passes for 795 yards and 10 touchdowns during his career.

Other preseason all-conference selections on offense for the Tigers include a pair of wide receivers in Brandon LaFell and Terrance Toliver. LaFell was named to the second team, while Toliver was a third team selection.

Defensively, the Tigers had two players named to both the second and third-teams. Defensive tackle Charles Alexander and safety Chad Jones were second team picks, while defensive end Rahim Alem and linebacker Perry Riley were named to the third team.

Trindon Holliday earned a spot on the third team as a return specialist.

Next week, the media will release their preseason all-SEC team, as well as their projected conference standings, as part of the league’s annual football media day in Hoover, Ala.
