BATON ROUGE -- LSU, LSU Sports Properties and New York City-based MSL Sports and Entertainment today announced that the university will host Gridiron Bash™: The Ultimate Fan Competition™ the day before LSU’s annual spring football game.
Gridiron Bash -- the first of its kind at Tiger Stadium -- will take place during the afternoon and evening of Friday, April 4 and include live performances by Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker Band and Sara Evans, as well as a giant pep rally and other festive fan activities. The LSU Spring Game will take place the following evening at 5 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.

Multi-platinum country superstar Sara Evans has won numerous accolades including the Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for “Born to Fly.” She has also been celebrated as one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.”
“There is tremendous excitement surrounding college football in the spring, when schools hold practices and Spring Games to showcase the upcoming season,” said LSU athletic director Skip Bertman. LSU is one of about 20 Division I universities nationwide selected by MSL (the event’s creator and producer) to serve as a Gridiron Bash host site.
“Tens of thousands of spectators come out each spring to watch our football Spring Game, but that’s typically where the ‘fan experience’ ends. Gridiron Bash extends the experience and enables fans to support their team, give back to their university and have a great time doing so,” Bertman said.
In total, Gridiron Bash™ is expected to bring participating universities in 2008 an estimated $12 million resulting from gate and merchandise revenue, as well as the opportunity to generate funds through parking, food and beverage sales.
At the core of Gridiron Bash™ is a fan contest --The USA TODAY Bash for Cash Series™ -- that will establish which of the participating schools has the most passionate and supportive fans. The USA TODAY Bash for Cash Series™ winners will be determined by adding up the total attendance at the Gridiron Bash™ event and combining that with the number of fans who text/call in to vote for their school. LSU fans can place a vote by texting LSU to 23909. MSL projects total attendance at all Gridiron Bash events to be about 1 million.
The USA TODAY Bash for Cash Series™ winning university will receive $1 million, with 2nd and 3rd place schools receiving $500,000 and $250,000 respectively. Presentation of the winning schools will be aired live in conjunction with a soon-to-be-announced national television partner.

Also included in the festivities surrounding the concert will be the 4th annual presentation of the 2007 People’s National Championship Trophy by George Brown, President of Fanspoll.com. Previous winners of the award are the University of Florida, the University of Texas and Auburn University.
