2005 Season
Ranks fifth in the SEC in ERA (2.60) and third in victories (10) ... Won seven of his last eight decisions ... Fired 28.2 innings consecutive scoreless innings during a four-game stretch from April 17-May 8 ... Smith's streak was the longest by an LSU pitcher since Ben McDonald fired 44.2 straight scoreless innings in 1989 ... Became the first LSU pitcher to record three consecutive complete-game victories since 1999, when first-round draft choice Kurt Ainsworth accomplished the feat ... Hurled complete games in wins over Ole Miss on April 17 (5-1), Arkansas on April 24 (6-0) and Vanderbilt on May 1 (3-0) ... The victories against Arkansas and Vanderbilt marked the first time an LSU pitcher fired back-to-back shutouts since 1989, when first-team all-American Ben McDonald blanked Tennessee and Florida on consecutive weekends ... Made 22 relief appearances (the second-highest total on the staff), recording a 2-0 mark and a 2.35 ERA with one save in 30.2 innings ... registered 13 walks and 35 strikeouts, and limited opponents to a .222 cumulative batting average ... 2-0 in SEC regular-season games with a 4.85 ERA; seven walks and 13 strikeouts in 13 SEC innings with one save ... pitched one scoreless inning in College World Series vs. Miami (June 19), allowing no hits with one walk and two strikeouts ... posted a relief win vs. Georgia (April 16); fired 1.2 shutout innings with one hit, no walks, one strikeout ... earned save at Auburn (April 4), preserving a 3-2 win by inducing a game-ending double play grounder with runners at the corners ... earned first career victory at South Carolina (March 19); worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
