WILMINGTON, N.C. -- LSU junior All-American Megan McChrystal posted a third consistent round to make a good return from the flu that forced her to miss the last tournament, finishing in a tie for 11th at the NCAA Fall Preview Sunday at The Landfall Tradition.
McChrystal will be looking to improve on that finish next May as the Lady Tigers hope to get another shot at the site of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships.
McChrystal fired rounds of 73-73-74 to finish the 54-hole event at four-over 220. Cydney Clanton of Auburn fired three consecutive rounds of two-under 70 to finish at six-under 210, five shots ahead of Brittany Altomare of Virginia at one-under 215 (74-71-70).
The Lady Tigers struggled to their second 19-over 307 of the event, again like the first round having to count at least one eight-over score of 80. But for the second straight tournament LSU’s lineup has been limited by the flu as Tessa Teachman has been out of action. McChrystal missed the previous tournament in Knoxville.
LSU finished at 48-over par 912 in a three way tie for 11th place with Georgia and North Carolina at 912. Duke rallied from fourth to win the even by a shot, posting an even par 288 in the final round to finish at 17-over 881. UCLA, the second round leader posted an 11-over 299 to finish at 18-over 882 in a tie with Auburn as the Tigers also shot even par 288.
LSU also had a nice 74 from Lindy LaBauve as she finished 76-74 in the tournament after struggling in round one.
“We didn’t finish the fall as well as we would have like to,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “But I am very pleased with the things we did early in winning the Match Play and the way we played in our second tournament. We were without some of our top players here in the end but it was good to have Megan back and performing well. We look forward to the spring and a lot of exciting events and we plan to be back here next May for the NCAA Division I Championships.”
