BATON ROUGE -- The LSU men’s golf media guide (buy it) has received national acclaim once again this spring as it has been voted the second-best media guide in the country along with earning the award for Best Cover design for the 2008-09 athletic year as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
This marks the second year in a row that the LSU men’s golf media guide has been ranked among the best in NCAA Division I as it received a No. 3 national ranking by CoSIDA in 2007-08.
The 64-page guide was written and edited by Associate Sports Information Director Will Stafford with design and page-by-page layout provided by publications student assistant Kenli Langlois. It also features outstanding photography by Andrew Fredrickson, including his cover photograph of Clayton Rotz competing at the 2008 NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash., last year.
Not only that, but Langlois was awarded a prestigious Student Gold ADDY Award from the 2009 American Advertising Federation-Baton Rouge ADDY Awards in February for her cover design.
“Our sports information and publications offices are certainly deserving of such a high honor with the work they do for us each year,” said LSU head coach Chuck Winstead. “They put together an outstanding media guide for us this year, and we certainly appreciate all of the hard work they put forth to ensure that we have the best in promoting our program. We couldn’t do it without them.”
LSU’s publications are ranked among the nation’s best each year, and this year is no exception as the men’s golf media guide is the fifth to receive a national award this year. Its volleyball media guide was voted No. 4 nationally, while its football game program and women’s golf media guide were each voted No. 5 nationally during the 2008-09 athletic year.
The guide is a complete source of up-to-date information on the 2008-09 squad, as well as archived information and records highlighting the prestigious history of the LSU men’s golf team.
It is a source of information for media outlets and fellow sports information directors from across the country, as well as a valuable recruiting tool for the LSU coaching staff.
The judging is based on eight categories, including team information, season in review, program history, general information, conference information, graphic design and editorial. The guides are critiqued by three pre-selected judges from outside organizations.
The guide, along with those of all 20 varsity athletic programs at LSU, can be viewed online at www.LSUsports.net. The awards will be presented at CoSIDA’s annual convention in San Antonio in July. CoSIDA is an organization designed to empower Sports Information Directors in universities across the country in their roles as sports information professionals.
