BATON ROUGE -- Gloria Johnson of the LSU gymnastics team earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Johnson had the best meet of her young career as a Tiger by posting her first and second ever 9.90’s in the tri-meet last week. Johnson also captured her first individual title as a Tiger by claiming the vault crown with a career-best 9.90 from the No. 3 spot in the lineup.

In only the third time she has competed in the event, Johnson set her career-high on floor with a 9.90 in the No. 2 slot in the lineup. She also followed her career-best 9.825 on beam against Alabama by posting a solid 9.80 in the tri-meet, and she played an integral part in LSU reaching a season-high 197.400.

In the meet, Johnson finished third on floor with the 9.90 and tied for fifth on beam with the 9.80 to go along with her first-place finish on vault.

Sixth-ranked LSU will return to action Friday when the Tigers host No. 9 Arkansas in a top 10 showdown in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m. CT.
