BATON ROUGE -- Following LSU’s first loss of the season on Saturday to Kentucky, head coach Les Miles met with members of the media on Sunday to discuss the Tigers’ performance in the 43-37 triple-overtime setback.
The following is a transcript of Miles’ Sunday briefing with the media:
After reviewing the film ...
“I don’t feel much differently. I reviewed the calls on offense, defense and special teams. I felt like the plan was pretty solid. I don’t know if I would have changed much of anything. I felt like we played awfully hard though. We can play better than that. Certainly, that will be the focus. It’s a pain. Nobody in this building is very happy today. The truth of the matter is we can go into this week and work on those things that we didn’t execute well and shore them up. We look forward to playing our next opponent. All of the goals that we want in our season are still there for us. It wouldn’t have made any difference of what the score of this last game was. We still have to go out and win the next one.”
On what mistakes were made ...
“In some instances it’s a different combination. In some instances it’s an opponent’s strength. In some instances it’s a loss of focus. Sometimes it is the situation of the game. I don’t know if it just a carry over from an emotional game prior to this. If anybody were to ask me, I would say we played awfully hard.”
On any injuries ...
“It was a very physical game. There were some nicks. It doesn’t appear to be any that are serious.”
On reaching the National Championship Game ...
“You don’t worry about the national title at this point. You worry about our next opponent. You get focused on Auburn and get to the open week and get some health built up. We go from there.”
On wide receiver Early Doucet and what the team misses without him ...
“It would be a good thing if Early Doucet got back healthy. We were searching for an opportunity there and early wanted that opportunity. It was something that we could ask him to do. It was something that he was very comfortable doing otherwise he would have never gotten him on the field. I think that is a good sign for this week. We look forward to getting him some more practice snaps and getting him in there a lot. You miss blocking, big play potential, make you miss and leadership. Early certainly has a significant role in this offense.”
On wide receiver Brandon LaFell ...
“He is still a young man. He’s still a young player. I think he’s doing a good job. He’s working hard at it. We need him to. The receiving core, by and large, is getting better.”
On the first BCS poll ...
“I’ll be honest with you. I am concerned about one thing and one thing only -- our next opponent. If our football team comes to practice and we focus one opponent at a time, gets a string of victories, everything we want to play for is still there. I enjoy the position where we are in currently, but it will only be enhanced by the ability to achieve game-by-game the rest of the season.”
