BATON ROUGE -- After taking 2-of-3 games at No. 12 Arkansas in less than 24 hours this weekend, the LSU baseball team moved to No. 3 in this week's Baseball America Top 25 and Collegiate Baseball Top 30, it was announced Monday morning.

Coleman Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

LSU right-hander Louis Coleman was named SEC Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office.

Coleman, a senior from Schlater, Miss., turned in a dominant outing against Arkansas on Saturday, recording a complete-game shutout as the Tigers posted a 5-0 victory. Coleman’s shutout was the first by an LSU pitcher since Greg Smith blanked Vanderbilt, 3-0, on May 1, 2005 in Nashville.

Only three Arkansas batters reached base against Coleman, who allowed two hits in nine innings with one walk and six strikeouts. After surrendering a single to start the second inning, Coleman retired 19 straight Razorback hitters before Arkansas recorded its second hit with one out in the eighth inning.

Coleman improved his record to 9-2 on the year – he leads the SEC in wins – with a 2.71 ERA in 76.1 innings. He has recorded 92 strikeouts and 17 walks, and opponents are hitting just .211 against him.

The honor was the second SEC Pitcher of the Week award this season for Coleman, and it marked the sixth time this year an LSU pitcher has been recognized by the conference.
