BATON ROUGE -- For the past 29 years, the LSU School of Music has celebrated the close of football season with sights and sounds fans have come to know and love.
On Monday, Nov. 16, LSU fans will once again have a chance to show their purple and gold pride while witnessing one of the most spectacular concert events of the year, as the LSU Tiger Band presents its annual Tigerama event.
Tigerama will take place at the Baton Rouge River Center from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a special VIP reception held prior to the concert to benefit the fundraising campaign for the construction of a new LSU Tiger Band Hall.
Frank Wickes, Director of Bands for the LSU School of Music, said that the event is a two-part concert.
“The first part features our two main bands -- Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds,” Wickes said. “During the second half, the LSU Marching Band stands on the floor and we play our show music and music from the football season. The Golden Girls and the Color Guard are there performing alongside. It’s quite a show.”
To accommodate the increase in Tigerama’s popularity, the event will take place in the Baton Rouge River Center, located in downtown Baton Rouge.
“It’s very well attended,” Wickes said of the event. “Around 1,500 to 2,000 people attended last year, so there’s quite a large audience. We’ve often said it’s the best ticket in town for the price.”
The special VIP silent auction event will take place from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., organized by Friends of the LSU Band. The auction will include but is not limited to special LSU collectibles.
Tickets to the VIP reception are $75 for adults and $30 for children. The price includes VIP seating to the concert, admission to the reception and an opportunity to pose for photos with the LSU Golden Girls.
Floor-level tables for the event will be available for Title, Corporate and Benefactor Patrons. Title patron for the event is Republic Finance, while benefactor patrons include Raising Cane’s and the Bengal Belles.
All funds from the auction, event and concert will go toward the construction of the new Tiger Band Hall. The fund to build the new hall is more than half way to its goal, according to department officials.
Wickes pointed out the need for a larger band hall facility to keep up with the growth of Tiger Band over the years.
“The Tiger Band has become a very large organization in the last 20 years,” Wickes said. “The band hall we’re currently in is too small. It was built to hold 140 people. Our marching Band now includes 350 people. The marching band cannot even rehearse in the Band Hall. We have to practice outside, and if we ever have any weather issues we can’t move inside like the football team can.”
Tickets for Tigerama are available through Ticketmaster. Regular seating cost is $15.
