BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Athletic Department, joining athletic departments all over the country, will host a three-mile run/walk Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium as part of a national campaign to raise awareness and funds to benefit pancreatic cancer research.
The event is being held in honor of late NCAA President Myles Brand, who passed away on Sept. 16 as a result of pancreatic cancer. The National Association of Basketball Coaches has created a “Miles for Myles” initiative to be conducted on college campuses across the nation this weekend on either Saturday or Sunday. Partners in this initiative are the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the NCAA.
The event is three miles (one mile for each NCAA Division). Each person participating is asked for a $3 donation ($1 for each mile). The funds collected will be split among three charitable funds for cancer research – NABC Coaches vs. Cancer (American Cancer Society); The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund; and the Myles Brand Endowed Chair for Cancer Research at the Indiana School of Medicine.
Registration at the Bernie Moore Stadium begins at 8 a.m. with the three-mile run/walk set to go at 8:30 a.m. The Miles for Myles event is open to anyone who wishes to participate and they may enter Bernie Moore Stadium through Gate 2.
